Speakers

We invite you to listen to our keynote speakers, sharing their expertise and insights to transform society and strengthen the economy. It is their commitment that allows us to best share the knowledge of Neuroscience.

Dr. Jaleel Miyan is currently a Senior Lecturer in Neuroscience of The University of Manchester, Faculty of Biology, Medicine and Health. He have a BSc in Biological Sciences majoring in Neurobiology from the University of Sussex (1978) and a PhD in Neurobiology from the University of Glasgow (1982). After two post-doctoral appointments in neurobiology at the Universities of Edinburgh and Sheffield, He was awarded a Royal Society (1983) University Research Fellowship which I held from 1986-1996 initially at Edinburgh and then at Manchester where I transfered to a Lectureship in 1996. He is a Fellow of the Royal Microscopical Society and a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy as well as a Visiting Professor at The Institute of Child Health at The Children’s Hospital Lahore.  He hold awards for both research and teaching including the Casey Holter Essay Prize from the Society for Research in Hydrocephalus and Spina Bifida and an Innovations in the Curriculum award for he introduction of problem-based learning to an undergraduate degree program in biological science.

Dr. Marina A. PAVLOVA is Professor at the Eberhard Karls University of Tübingen, Germany. She obtained PhD in Psychology (1990) from the Institute of Psychology, Russian Academy of Sciences, Moscow, and completed her Habilitation at the Medical School of the University of Tübingen in 2006. Her primary strengths lie in the realm of interdisciplinary research combining (neuro)psychological methods with multimodal brain imaging and clinical studies. She uses psychophysics, magnetoencephalography (MEG), structural and functional magnetic resonance imaging (f/MRI), and diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) to identify the neural networks engaged in social cognition. She is among the authors of the first MEG paper (Neuroreport 1999) from the MEG Centre in Tübingen.  Marina published first MEG studies by using visual displays (body motion, Heider-and-Simmel movies) in healthy children, adults, and patients. She is an expert in Social Neuroscience with focus on sex differences in the social brain.

Dr.Richard Paul Ebstein (born February 19, 1943) is an American behavioural  geneticist. He is Professor in the Department of Psychology at the National University of Singapore, as well as Professor Emeritus in the Psychology Department at Hebrew University. He is known for his research on the genetics of human social behaviours, such as political ideology, novelty seeking and dancing. His work is highly interdisciplinary and combines personality, social, cognitive, and neuropsychology with techniques of molecular genetics. Major research areas include neuroeconomics, the genetics of social behaviour and normal personality, autism, ADHD, eating disorders, and substance abuse. He has published over 260 peer reviewed articles.

Dr. Caleb Finch, PhD, researches the basic mechanisms in human aging with a focus on inflammation. He has received most of the major awards in biomedical gerontology, including the Robert W. Kleemeier Award of the Gerontological Society of America in 1985, the Sandoz Premier Prize by the International Geriatric Association in 1995, and the Irving Wright Award of AFAR and the Research Award of AGE in 1999. He was the founder of the NIA-funded Alzheimer Disease Research Center in 1984. Finch became a University Distinguished Professor in 1989, an honor held by thirty other professors at USC who contribute to multiple fields. In 2018 Finch received an honorary doctorate from The French Academy. Dr. Finch has written six books and 600 articles.

Dr. Kunlin Jin is a Tenured Professor at the University of North Texas Health Science Center in the United States. He received his M.D. and Ph.D. degrees in China, where he also served as an Assistant Professor in the Institute of Hematology at Beijing University. In 1992, he came to the US and worked as a postdoctoral fellow at the University of California, San Francisco. Dr. Jin is the author of over 250 peer-reviewed, original research papers. His recent papers have been published in competitive journals, including the JCI, PNAS, and Nature. Importantly, he has been a leader in several areas of investigation related to stroke, particularly focusing on the roles of adult neurogenesis and endogenous neuroprotective proteins in regulating the brain’s response to ischemic injury.

More recently, his research has explored the effects of aging on these processes.  During his follow-up work, Dr. Jin made incredible findings that will profoundly influence the way we think about the treatment of brain diseases through cell replacement using stem cells. He was the first to discover that brain injuries, including those caused by stroke and neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer’s disease, can stimulate stem cells to generate new neurons in rodents and humans. Furthermore, his encouraging findings demonstrate how neural stem cells can be manipulated by growth factors such as FGF-2, EGF, VEGF, and SCF, even after intranasal administration.  For many years, there has been hope that stem cells may provide a new avenue for the treatment of brain diseases. Dr. Jin’s discoveries have turned this hope into a reality.

Dr. Wolters is currently working as Vice-director of IBB and Professor at the Medical Faculty of the University of Munster, Germany. He got his Masters in Mathematics with minor in Medicine at RWTH Aachen, Germany, his PhD in Mathematics from the University of Leipzig, Germany, where he worked at the Max-Planck-Institutes for Mathematics in the Sciences and Human Cognitive and Brain Sciences, and his Habilitation in Mathematics at the University of Münster, Germany. He did a one-year Post Doc at the Scientific Computing and Imaging Institute, Salt Lake City, USA. His more than 100 publications reflect his research interests in bio electromagnetism.
